FAQ
Why isn't Screen Time enough for AI burnout?
Screen Time measures duration. AI burnout is caused by cognitive load — the mental strain from rapid context-switching, information overload, and decision fatigue across multiple AI tools. Two hours in one tool vs. two hours in six tools are completely different cognitive experiences.
Does BrainShield replace Screen Time?
No — they measure different things. Screen Time tracks total device usage across all apps. BrainShield specifically measures cognitive strain from AI tools. Keep Screen Time for general awareness, add BrainShield for AI-specific cognitive load tracking.
Can I use BrainShield on my phone?
BrainShield currently works via a Chrome extension on desktop, where most AI tool usage happens. Mobile support is on the roadmap. Screen Time remains the best option for mobile screen awareness.
Is BrainShield free?
Yes — Free gives you a real-time wellness score across 165+ AI tools and basic break reminders. Wellness ($12/mo) adds tool breakdowns, trends, and 30-day history. Balance ($19/mo) adds AI-powered insights, productivity scoring, forecasts, and data export. Screen Time is free but measures a fundamentally different thing.
I don't use that many AI tools. Do I need BrainShield?
If you primarily use 1-2 AI tools, Screen Time's general tracking may be sufficient. BrainShield becomes essential when you're juggling 3+ AI tools daily — the cognitive cost of context-switching compounds in ways simple time tracking can't capture.
